From President Tony Gallo:
A club member has submitted a request to modify flight operations at Sloflyers EFR to better allow close-in 3D aerobatics. Board meetings have been held to discuss how best to allow this type of RC flying without compromising current required safety rules. The following proposed elements are being put forth for implementation on a trial basis for a period of 90 days. Following this trial, a review will be performed to determine if modifications might be nessesary prior to implementing final changes to Sloflyers EFR operations.
- It was determined that a dedicated time slot/day for the 3D activities was preferable to trying to incorporate 3D flight with normal pattern flight operations.
- The first and third Wednesday of each month were proposed. ALES contests are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays.
- If, on these dedicated 3D days other flyers show up wanting to fly, it is incumbent on the 3D flyers to determine if they can fly safely together. An example might be alternating flying; 3D only, then pattern flying, then 3D, etc.
- If on a given day there are no normal flight activities occurring, 3D flight operations would be allowed with the understanding that should other flyers show up, 3D flyers must defer to normal flight club members and stop flying 3D.
- The new proposed elements do not supersede nor negate the current required SLOFLYERS, AMA, FAA, Safety or MOU agreements.
