Thanks to Wade Akle and Paul Genshaw’s leadership along with many helping hands we now have a new cover over the pit area. I hear that it will go down in the Guinness Book of records for the most screws used.

Message from President

A few weeks ago we hosted/helped the students from
Areo121 class at Cal Poly with there glider fly off at
the field. There were 37 glider design teams that
competed. I'm not completely sure of every design
parameter, but they had to carry at least 50 Penny's
as ballast, some had about $4.00 dollars worth and I
believe wing area. The longest flight time was the
goal using a high start. Some made a perfect ballistic
flight while many others got flight times in the 20+
seconds. We had a ball talking to all the students and
receiving all the very scientific reasons be hind the
particular design concepts. There were a fair share of
structural failers and some interesting new flight
patterns displayed. But from a modeler view DON'T
prejudge what you think will or won't fly!
Also we have a new, very nice looking sun shade for
the flight line. Thanks to Wade Akle and Paul Genshaw,
who designed and pre-cut many of the parts and to all
the other members who participated in constucting it.
This will replace the very old canvas one we have been
patching and will last for many years. Thanks to all
who made it happen.

Tony
